Kabini sits on the southern boundary of Nagarhole National Park — one of Karnataka's finest wildlife reserves and part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. The Kabini backwater, formed by a reservoir on the Kabini River, creates a dramatic meeting point of forest and water, drawing extraordinary concentrations of wildlife to its banks. A 2-night stay here offers two morning and two afternoon jeep safaris inside the national park, a traditional coracle ride on the Kabini backwaters and full-board accommodation with all meals included — a complete, self-contained wilderness experience perfectly suited to a long weekend.
Kabini is accessible from Mysore (approximately 2.5 hours) and Bangalore (approximately 4.5 hours), making it one of the most convenient wildlife escapes for travellers flying into either city.

Arrive Kabini — Afternoon Safari — Sunset at the Backwaters
Arrive at Kabini resort by midday. Check-in, freshen up and enjoy a welcome lunch. Afternoon jeep safari inside Nagarhole National Park — the late afternoon hours are among the best for wildlife sightings, as animals move toward the water. Safari typically runs from approximately 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Return to the resort for dinner and an evening by the campfire. Overnight at Kabini.
Full Safari Day — Jeep Safari, Coracle Ride and Naturalist Walk
An early start for the morning jeep safari inside Nagarhole — the hours around sunrise are the most rewarding for wildlife. The park supports tigers, Indian leopards, Asian elephants, gaur (the world's largest wild cattle), sloth bears, dholes (Indian wild dogs), sambar and spotted deer, and over 300 species of birds. Return to the resort for a full breakfast. Afternoon: coracle ride on the Kabini backwaters — this traditional circular bamboo and hide boat allows you to drift quietly near the shoreline, where elephants and birds regularly come to drink and bathe. Afternoon jeep safari at 3:30 PM — a second full safari in the opposite zone of the park. Dinner and overnight at Kabini.
Morning Safari — Breakfast — Departure
Final morning jeep safari at sunrise — three safaris over two full days gives excellent opportunity to experience the different moods of the forest. Return to the resort for a leisurely breakfast. Check-out and departure by midday. Drive back to Mysore or Bangalore, completing a thoroughly rewarding wildlife weekend.

⚠️ Important Notes
- Nagarhole National Park safari permits are issued by the Karnataka Forest Department. Slots are limited and are allocated on a first-come basis — we strongly recommend booking well in advance, especially for weekends and public holidays.
- The park is closed during the southwest monsoon (mid-June to mid-October) when the forest is shut to visitors. The best wildlife season is October to May, with peak sightings from January to April when the dry season concentrates animals around water sources.
- A coracle ride is typically a 30–45 minute activity on the Kabini backwaters. Seasonal water levels affect the extent of the coracle route.
- Wildlife sightings — including tiger and leopard — cannot be guaranteed. Kabini has a very healthy predator-prey balance and sighting rates are among the best in South India, but all safari experiences depend on natural animal movement.
